The MiddleWick Ranges is a unique, uncultivated mosaic of habitats supporting ecosystems of rare and diverse wildlife and is classed as a Local Wildlife area (LoWs) on par with a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The point of these types of designations is to coincide with policies that promote green spaces, conservation and resilience. Comprehensive city-wide strategies to increase access to green spaces, green infrastructure plans and making ecosystem health and growth a key aspect of all city planning, will be essential for creating liveable cities in the decades to come. So, why are Colchester Borough Council and the Ministry Of Defence with their Defence Infrastructure Organisation overlooking this important designation? Yes, there is a need for housing, but why are we not utilising what we already have before we go and wipe out habitats. For example the many now empty retail outlets in the town centre due to the move to shopping online. I hope you can bring forward a few of these points in your following publications. Kind regards
